The semifinals, finals and award ceremony are free and open to the public.  All events will take place in the Moores School of Music at the University of Houston.  Follow the signs from the parking lot just north of the music building to the correct room.  

 

SEMIFINALS - morning, times TBA

FINALS - afternoon, times TBA

AWARDS CONCERT - late afternoon or early evening, times TBA

 

 

The Houston Young Bassoonist Competition is a two round competition open to all bassoonists who have not reached their 19th birthday.  This will be a one day event with the semifinals beginning in the morning, finals in the afternoon and awards in the evening.  All performances will be open to the public.  The number of finalists and winners will be determined by the judges.  All judges decisions are final.  Awards will range from $400-$50.  

 

 

REPERTOIRE REQUIREMENTS

Semifinal Repertoire.     Free choice piece of up to 10 minutes in length. You are responsible for your accompanist (if needed).  

 

Finals Repertoire. Concerto in A minor FVIII, no.2 by Antonio Vivaldi

 

 

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

Application (or download from a photo in my gallery), application fee ($35 payable by cash or check), and photocopy of the bassoon part of your free choice piece are due by March 20, 2016 (post mark date). 

 

Approximately one week before the competition you will be assigned a performance window and given more information about procedures for the day. Checks payable to and please send mail to:Gina L. Stevens
